Description:

Interested in getting involved in the Theatre Department at Wofford? Want to learn more about what’s coming up this season, and about how you can help? Please join us for an Open House on Sept. 1 at 6 PM in the front lobby of the Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts! Meet the faculty, staff, and students who make up the vibrant and growing theatre community on campus, learn more about opportunities to get involved both onstage and off. In accordance with CDC and college guidelines on social distancing, attendance will be limited, and all attendees must RSVP. Please fill out this quick form to reserve your spot: https://forms.gle/Wx56PaHm6h18Y4x29.

After the Open House, all are welcome to join us in the Jerome Johnson Richardson Theatre at 7 PM for auditions for our fall play, Waiting for Godot, written by Samuel Beckett and directed by Prof. Dan Day. Auditions will include cold readings from the script, and all auditionees are also invited to prepare and memorize two contrasting, contemporary monologues, no more than one minute long each. Note that monologues are required for all students who are currently pursuing or who plan to declare a major or minor in Theatre; please prepare new material that you have not used for previous auditions, classes, or productions at Wofford. Monologues are optional for all others.

Performance dates for Waiting for Godot are Nov. 5-7 and 11-14, and rehearsals begin early in September.

We hope to see you at one or both of these exciting events!

Introduction to Truth, Racial Healing, & Transformation (TRHT) in Spartanburg and at Wofford, via Zoom (Other)
Description:

Wofford joined the national Truth, Racial Healing, & Transformation (TRHT) movement in late 2019.  Dr. Gail Christopher, whose life’s work has been developing the TRHT framework and movement, was the keynote speaker at the City of Spartanburg’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration in 2020. While she was in town, Dr. Christopher met with community partners, and Wofford and other Spartanburg higher education professionals.  Then, the pandemic hit, George Floyd was murdered, and our nation was plunged into an economic crisis; all of which underscored how much more work we have to do.  So, we all started re-imagining the work of TRHT for a new era.   Join us on Zoom to learn about TRHT in Spartanburg and at Wofford, including how you can get involved. Please register at https://bit.ly/2CFOmrq

This is an open discussion for faculty and staff about un-grading, the practice of leaving out the traditional evaluation of students employing a grading hierarchy in favor of process- and growth-oriented learning. Un-grading can take different forms: contract grading, portfolios, student reflections with detailed feedback, etc. The discussion will offer an opportunity to share practices, strategies, and approaches to non-hierarchical evaluation systems, as well as exchange ideas and generate a vision for future discussions and collaboration.  To participate in this discussion, please sign up here, and a Zoom link will be sent to you on September 22.
